New Technology Classroom Facilities for Dakota State University in
Madison, South Dakota have been integrated into the old Performing
Arts Center facility, also known as the original Women's Gym
constructed in 1910. The Technology Classrooms and associated uses
are the third adaptive reuse of this historic campus structure over
the past 93 years.
An assessment performed by Koch Hazard
Architects with the DSU senior staff identified the need for an
additional classroom and lecture hall space with full distance
learning capability adn the latest in technology to accommodate the
significant grownth enrollment at DSU.
The original large upper floor gymnasium space has been renovated
as a lecture hall and the suspended running track overlooking the
gym is designed for office space and a new state-of-the-art computer
lab.
The main level provides two large distance learning/e-learning
classrooms and an instructional conference room for student, faculty
and community uses as well as offices for the distance education
department. Historic roof and window replacement round out the
preservation and adaptive re-use program and re-establish the
building campus landmark with a new mission.
