This new Air Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility on the South Dakota Air National Guard Base at Joe Foss Field is designed to accommodate military and civilian airport safety requirements. The project is a joint effort of the Air National Guard, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Sioux Falls Airport Authority.

Replacing an existing fire station, the new facilities are designed to accommodate additional military fire fighting personnel and apparatus serving growing military and civilian use of the airport. The facility is master planned to accommodate future growth.
