This proposed
facility includes sheriff’s offices, a new jail, courts, and law
enforcement and jail support spaces. The facility will accommodate
140 inmates, classified as male and female general population,
maximum security, and work release.
Space also
includes dayrooms and large exercise areas, and jail support spaces
including a commercial kitchen, multi-purpose rooms, jail staff
areas, and space for inmate visitation.
The heart of the
jail contains a large central control room equipped with
state-of-the-art security systems, video monitoring, video
visitation, and building environmental system controls. The facility
also contains a video courtroom for conducting proceedings between
inmates and their attorneys with a presiding judge in a remote
off-site location. A full courtroom rounds out the facility program,
and includes judge’s chambers, court reporter’s offices, conference
rooms and a jury room.
The facility will
be located on a large county-owned site in Mason City, with
circulation patterns designed to accommodate separations between the
public and inmates, both on site and within the facility.
