North Main building getting new life

A vacant, three-story brick building along North Main Avenue is being renovated, and developers have another, longer-range improvement in mind for the neighborhood.

The L&A Baking Co. building at 910 N. Main Ave, includes 8,812 square feet spread over three floors.

"We've stabilized the building. We have a new roof on it," says architect Jeff Hazard, who heads the investment group Falls Overlook LLC. "We are just about to start working on the interior of the building."

The owners also are looking for tenants or a buyer. The building is listed for sale with Cirrus Commercial Realty Services for $395,000.

Neil Schmid of Cirrus says the group seeks tenants to help generate money for extensive interior renovations.

A metal building attached to the brick building probably will be removed and reconstructed elsewhere, Hazard says. Then, in four or five years, the group would like to build condominiums on land just south and east of the old bakery building, he says.

The condos would overlook Falls Park as well as the Uptown area.

"It does have a fantastic view of the falls," Schmid says.
