SDSU's 'end zone' taking shape
Brookings Register
July 17, 2009

With a $6 million gift from SDSU alumnus Dana Dykhouse and South Dakota businessman and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford, work on the Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center, a new athletic facility being built on the South Dakota State University campus in the north end zone of Coughlin-Alumni Stadium, is expected to be complete and ready for student use sometime this fall. The gifts by Dykhouse and Sanford last fall started the building campaign, and construction on the project began shortly after.

The 30,000-square-foot building - which dwarfs the two workers shown in the windows - will be built of brick, pre-cast concrete and glass. According to SDSU head football coach John Stiegelmeier, the facility will be used primarily by football teams (but will be open for all student and athlete use) and will include locker rooms; meeting rooms; coaches' offices; an academic center equipped with study areas, computers and other educational aids; and a training and weight room with rehabilitation areas. Efforts to raise an additional $1.25 million for furniture and fixtures to outfit the center are under way.

For more information, or to donate to the facility, contact the SDSU athletic development office at 697-7475.
