City signs
agreement to pursue Uptown plan
Uptown
representatives and Sioux Falls Mayor Dave Munson have signed an
agreement to move forward with the $150 million development plan
consisting of 500 residential units and 330,000 square feet of
office and retail space in downtown Sioux Falls. Koch Hazard is
on the team that submitted the Uptown at Falls Park proposal to
the city last August. Phase one is now underway with building
renovations on Main Avenue.

designs snow sculpture for Children's Inn fundraiser
Koch Hazard
sponsored and participated in the 2007 FunSki Winter Carnival, an
annual fundraising event for Children's Inn in Sioux Falls on
January 26-27. Koch
Hazard team members designed a polar bear for the snow sculpting
event and won second place in the contest.

updates Falls Center to welcome Food and Fermentation
The original
Jewitt Wholesale Grocers warehouse in downtown Sioux Falls has
undergone renovations on the first floor to house an expanding
gourmet food and wine shop. Food and Fermentation, formerly
located at 212 S. Phillips Avenue, has moved north to Falls
Center and will be open for business on February 1, 2007.

featured on South Dakota Public Radio
KH principal
Stacey McMahan, AIA, LEED AP, was recently interviewed for a
South Dakota Public Radio broadcast on the topic of
sustainability. The interview will air on February 6. McMahan
has worked on four Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) projects at Koch Hazard and is working to develop green
building within the region.

NSU
Technology Center complete
The 39,000
square foot Technology Center at Northern State University in
Aberdeen, SD is now complete. Koch Hazard designed the addition
to encompass four levels and include a technology help desk,
technology support, a testing center, computer classrooms, two
multimedia studios, office space for technology and arts and
sciences faculty and staff.

Interior
Designer earns LEED accreditation
Kay Hirning,
interior designer at Koch Hazard, is now a LEED Accredited
Professional. She successfully completed the exam on November 28.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green
Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for
the design, construction, and operation of high performance
green buildings.

Gallery featuring Travis Hinton and Ceca Cooper
On November 24,
Koch Hazard will hold its annual Fall Gallery show, entitled
'Boundary Transformations'. Work from artists Travis Hinton and
Ceca Cooper will be on display at the KH Gallery until January

KH principal speaks at Green Bike Tour 2006
KH principal
Stacey McMahan, AIA, LEED AP, was a presenter at the Green Bike
Tour 2006 in Sioux Falls on September 25. McMahan shared project
background information on Courthouse Square, a recently
completed building in Sioux Falls which was designed to meet
LEED Gold certification for its environmentally-sensitive
design. The Tour seeks to
demonstrate that renewable energy strengthens rural economies
and secures America's energy future.

strides in green building
In an effort to
increase awareness and involvement in 'green building' within
the region, Koch
Hazard recently hosted a daylong Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED) workshop in Sioux Falls for staff, consultants,
and others interested in sustainability. Koch Hazard is a proud member
of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Architects is a member of the team that submitted the successful
development proposal for North Phillips Avenue in Sioux Falls,
SD, entitled 'Uptown at Falls Park'. This proposed project
features over 500 new residential units, 300,000 square feet of
restaurant, retail and office space, sites for two hotels and a
media center.

Cerro Gordo
Law Enforcement Center to break ground
On August 16
construction will begin on the new 72,000 square foot law
enforcement center in Mason City, Iowa. The facility, designed
by Koch Hazard, will include a new jail, sheriff's offices,
courts, and law enforcement and jail support services.

Fire
Station #10 to hold ribbon cutting ceremony
On August 4,
the new 8,000 square foot Fire Station #10 designed by Koch
Hazard, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 p.m. at
their location on West 12th Street. This 3-bay station will help
to improve response times in western Sioux Falls.

Family
Wellness Center to open August 1
The new 73,000
square foot Family Wellness Center, designed by Koch Hazard, is
completed and will open to the public on August 1. Located on
West 32nd Street in Sioux Falls, the Wellness Center is a
collaboration between Sioux Falls Family YMCA and Sioux Valley
Hospitals.

Exchange promotes downtown development
Over 100
business and development leaders from across the region gathered
in downtown Sioux Falls on June 15 for a day of planning, panel
discussion, trends and review at the 2006 Northern Plains
Downtown Development Idea Exchange. Koch Hazard was a sponsor of
the event, and CEO/senior principal Jeff Hazard gave a

New senior
housing facility to hold ribbon cutting ceremony
A ribbon
cutting ceremony for the Lodge at Prairie Creek in southwest
Sioux Falls will be held on June 20th at 4:30 pm. This 70-unit
facility designed by Koch Hazard consists of two three-story
residential wings connected to a central commons above a
basement parking garage.

Renovations
will be completed early next year on an adaptive re-use project
designed by Koch Hazard
to house the Museum of Visual Materials, an interactive learning
museum and unique addition to downtown Sioux Falls.

Cherapa Place
breaks ground
A
groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 25 for Cherapa Place,
a new 140,000 square foot office building to be located on the
east bank of the Big Sioux River in downtown Sioux Falls. This
six-story building designed by Koch Hazard will be a catalyst
for future development along the east bank riverfront.

The 2006 Organizational Governor's Award for History was awarded
to Koch Hazard Architects for their efforts in preserving the
history of South Dakota through the built environment. This
award is given annually to one organization whose efforts

Koch Hazard is partnering with Main Street Sioux Falls to launch
the 2006 Northern Plains Downtown Development Idea Exchange to
be held in Sioux Falls on June 15, 2006. This daylong event will
offer insight on topics ranging from mixed used development
concepts to downtown marketing. The mission of the Idea Exchange
is to educate and stimulate downtown property owners,
developers, planning managers and designers to create the best
possible futures for downtowns. |

president of community art group
Stacey L.
McMahan, principal at Koch Hazard Architects, was elected to
serve as President of the 2006 Board of Directors for the Sioux
Empire Arts Council after serving on the board in various

estate, construction and architecture’
The Sioux Falls
Business Journal announced that Koch Hazard Architects is the
winner of ‘Best Company in Real Estate, Construction and
Architecture’, as well as ‘Best Architecture Firm’ in the ‘The
Source Book of Lists - Best of Sioux Falls Business’ contest.
The contest, which was conducted in August and September 2005,
included ballots from 37 companies doing business in Sioux Falls
and was voted on by a panel of 12 judges.

sweeps South Dakota design competition
Three awards were presented at
the American Institute of Architects (AIA) South Dakota
convention in October. Koch Hazard received all three awards,
including honor awards for the YWCA and Falls Overlook Café, and
a Merit award for Sulivan Health Science Center. A total of 14
projects were submitted. AIA South Dakota design awards
recognize outstanding building projects recently completed
within the state.
