Two more staff members from Koch Hazard are
now LEED Accredited Professionals. Matthew Hansen completed the
exam on June 12 and Aaron Bakker on June 19.
Matthew Hansen, project technician, began

Andy Fett successfully completed the exam on June 5.
Beth Guenther, Project Manager, has nine years of experience
working at Koch Hazard and 16 years of total experience in the
design industry.
Robyn Haggin, Project Technician, began working at Koch Hazard
in August 2008 and has seven years of experience in the design
industry.
Andy Fett, Project Designer, began working at Koch Hazard in
October 2008.

Senior Principal appointed to city boards
Chris Schiltz, Senior Principal at Koch Hazard, was recently
appointed by Sioux Falls Mayor Dave Munson to two city boards;
the Public Transit Advisory Board and the Zoning Board of
Adjustment. He will serve a three-year term effective June 4,
2009.

Koch Hazard Architects is pleased to welcome the addition of two
staff members:
Angela McKillip has
joined Koch Hazard as a Project Designer. Angela received a
Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from South Dakota State
University and a Master of Architecture at University of
Minnesota. Angela spent two years at an architectural firm in
St. Paul, MN and has experience as an Assistant Professor at
South Dakota State University where she will continue to teach a
design studio in the interior design program.
Collin Jacobs is a summer
architectural intern. Collin graduated from University of Kansas
with a Masters in Architecture this past May.

Groundbreaking for the addition and remodel of the existing
Children's Home Society Loving School in Sioux Falls will be
held Tuesday, May 19. Koch Hazard designed the addition which is
scheduled for completion in October 2010.

breaks ground
Construction will begin mid-April on the new 68,000 square foot
Intermediate School in Tea, SD. Designed by Koch Hazard, the new
school will be located just south of the current high/middle

Around 270 people registered to attend the second Plain Green

Groundbreaking scheduled for
Heartland building
On April 10 at 11:00 at a groundbreaking
ceremony, construction will officially be underway for the new
headquarters building for Heartland Consumers Power District in
Madison, SD. The 9,400 square foot building, designed by
Koch Hazard, is on track to become the first LEED Platinum
building in South Dakota.

Orpheum
Theater ribbon cutting set for June 22
Current
renovations are now complete on the multi-phased historic
Orpheum Theater Center project in downtown Sioux Falls. The
688-seat Orpheum, the Lobby ('Link') and the Anne Zabel Studio
Theater (Actor's Studio) have all undergone improvements by Koch
Hazard, and a ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for June 22.

Museum of
Visual Materials set to open June 1
The Museum
of Visual Materials, a renovation project by Koch Hazard, will
be open to the public on June 1. The Museum is an interactive
learning center planned to attain a Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification with the United
States Green Building Council.

addition
Koch Hazard
is beginning the design process for the addition of an
elementary school wing to the existing Sioux Falls Christian
school facility located at 69th and South Charger in southeast
Sioux Falls. Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2007.

Koch
Hazard's design of The Lodge at Prairie Creek, a senior living
facility in southwest Sioux Falls, has been selected as a
finalist in the 2007 Best of 50+ Housing Awards competition in
the categories of Overall Community Multifamily Housing and
Common Area Interior Design for Multifamily Housing. The
competition was sponsored by the National Association of Home
Builders 50+ Housing Council. The Lodge at Prairie Creek is also
a 2006 American Institute of Architects South Dakota award
winner.

City signs
agreement to pursue Uptown plan
Uptown
representatives and Sioux Falls Mayor Dave Munson have signed an
agreement to move forward with the $150 million development plan
consisting of 500 residential units and 330,000 square feet of
office and retail space in downtown Sioux Falls. Koch Hazard is
on the team that submitted the Uptown at Falls Park proposal to
the city last August. Phase one is now underway with building
renovations on Main Avenue.

for the snow sculpting event and won second place in the
contest.

The
original Jewitt Wholesale Grocers warehouse in downtown Sioux
Falls has undergone renovations on the first floor to house an
expanding gourmet food and wine shop. Food and Fermentation,
formerly located at 212 S. Phillips Avenue, has moved north to
Falls Center and will be open for business on February 1, 2007.

KH principal
Stacey McMahan, AIA, LEED AP, was recently interviewed for a
South Dakota Public Radio broadcast on the topic of
sustainability. The interview will air on February 6. McMahan
has worked on four Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) projects at Koch Hazard and is working to develop green
building within the region.

Technology Center complete
The 39,000
square foot Technology Center at Northern State University in
Aberdeen, SD is now complete. Koch Hazard designed the addition
to encompass four levels and include a technology help desk,
technology support, a testing center, computer classrooms, two
multimedia studios, office space for technology and arts and
sciences faculty and staff.

KH principal Stacey McMahan, AIA, LEED AP, was a presenter
at the Green Bike Tour 2006 in Sioux Falls on September 25.
McMahan shared project background information on Courthouse
Square, a recently completed building in Sioux Falls which was
designed to meet LEED Gold certification for its
environmentally-sensitive design. The Tour seeks to demonstrate
that renewable energy strengthens rural economies and secures
America's energy future.

Gordo Law Enforcement Center to break ground
On August
16 construction will begin on the new 72,000 square foot law
enforcement center in Mason City, Iowa. The facility, designed
by Koch Hazard, will include a new jail, sheriff's offices,
courts, and law enforcement and jail support services.

cutting ceremony
On August
4, the new 8,000 square foot Fire Station #10 designed by Koch
Hazard, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 p.m. at

Wellness Center to open August 1
The new
73,000 square foot Family Wellness Center, designed by Koch
Hazard, is completed and will open to the public on August 1.
Located on West 32nd Street in Sioux Falls, the Wellness Center

Valley Hospitals.

Business Journal announced that Koch Hazard Architects is the

Koch Hazard sweeps South Dakota design competition
Three
awards were presented at the American Institute of Architects
(AIA) South Dakota convention in October. Koch Hazard received
