Architectural Portfolio
Northern State University Technology Center in Aberdeen, SD has
been selected for publication in Penton Media's American
School & University 2008 Architectural Portfolio. The

2008 edition of the magazine.
An annual competition honoring education design excellence, the

Tea Area School District approves bond
issue
Voters in Tea Area School District approved a bond of up to $9.9
million for a new intermediate school, to be designed by Koch
Hazard. The school is scheduled to open by fall 2010.

principal participates in Greenbuild
Stacey McMahan, a principal at Koch Hazard, attended the United
States Green Building Council's (USGBC) Greenbuild Conference on
November 18-21 in Boston. Greenbuild provides an opportunity to
connect with other green building peers, industry experts, and
influential leaders as they share innovations in the green
building movement.

Gallery featuring Mi Young Lee & Mary Selvig
On November 28,
Koch Hazard will hold its annual Fall Gallery show, entitled
'Translations of Feeling & Form'. Work from artists Mi Young Lee

LEED accreditation
T.J. Olson, Project
Designer at Koch Hazard, is now a LEED Accredited Professional. He
successfully completed the exam on November 13. The LEED
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building
Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the
design, construction, and operation of high performance green
buildings. T.J. began working at Koch Hazard in 2007.

released the first annual magazine. Stacey McMahan, principal at

receives design awards
Of the three
awards to be presented at the 2008 American Institute of
Architects (AIA) South Dakota convention, Koch Hazard will
receive two. The Kresge Building received the only Honor Award,
and the Orpheum Theater Complex received a Merit Award.
Both projects are located in downtown Sioux Falls.

SDSU Dykhouse Student Athlete Center breaks ground
Construction officially began on the new
Dykhouse Student Athlete Center at South Dakota State University on
Septemger 27.
The
athletic complex, designed by Koch Hazard, will house all of the
operations for SDSU's Division I football program and will also
include a student athlete academic center. The project is expected to be
completed in the fall of 2009.

Plain Green conference to be held on September 25-26
Koch Hazard Architects and South Dakota State University have
collaborated to host Plain Green, a conference addressing
sustainability. The event will be held at the Washington

Huron Public Library breaks ground
Construction officially began on the $2.2
million expansion to Huron Public Library on July 10.
The
addition, designed by Koch Hazard, includes a relocated entrance
and expanded children's area. The project is expected to be
completed in June 2009.

Interior Designer earns NCIDQ
accreditation
Kay Hirning, Interior Designer at Koch Hazard Architects,
recently passed the examination to receive the National Council
for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certificate. The
examination is a universal standard by which to measure the
competency of interior designers to practice as professionals.
Kay has worked at Koch Hazard since September 2006.

Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux
Falls begins construction
Construction began on the 60,000 square foot addition to Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The new addition,
designed by Koch Hazard, will consist of a new gathering space
with clear-story windows, basement classrooms, an activities
gym, and a second worship space for a contemporary celebrate
service. Construction is scheduled to be complete in December
2009.

cutting ceremony was held on June 5 at Children's Home Society
for the Administration Building, a three-phased addition and renovation project by Koch Hazard
that adds much needed office, therapy, and conference space.

renovation project by Koch Hazard that adds 11,000 square
feet of retail/office space and 22,000 square feet of

Green Project is announced
In conjunction
with Earth Day on April 22,
Koch Hazard and a group of Sioux Falls business leaders launched
the Sioux Falls Green Project, a citywide initiative that will
change the way people think and act toward the environment.
Targeting both consumers and the business community, the Green
Project will seek to educate and inspire Sioux Falls residents
to live greener - particularly the areas of recycling, water
conservation, energy consumption and development.

selected for Rural Learning Center
Koch Hazard has
been selected as the architect for an addition to Rural Learning
Center, headquarters of an organization dedicated to help rural communities
achieve viable and vital futures by serving as a catalyst,
resource, and guide for rural-based learning. The center will
potentially include a 100-200 person conference center, expanded
office space, a hotel and a community kitchen. The facility will
make use of a wide variety of cutting-edge sustainable
technology for energy savings and education, and is on track to
be the first LEED certified Platinum building in South Dakota.

for new Freeman Elementary School passes

designing an addition to the Freeman Elementary School in
Freeman, SD. The addition provides classrooms, computer labs, a
library, a music room, gymnasium, cafeteria/commons and support
areas for preschool through sixth grade students.

South Dakota is
officially moving into the green arena with the passage of
Senate Bill 188, the 28th state to require a green building

enforcement center in Mason City, IA is now complete. Koch
